Vitalijus Mazūras

Vitalijus Mazūras was born in Šiaulaičiai Village (Šiaulėnai rural district, Šiauliai county), on April 28, 1934. In 1964, he completed his studies in Scenography at Lithuanian State Art Institute. During 1964-1994, Mazūras worked as a designer at the Vilnius theatre Lėlė. In 1971-1979 and 1988-1994, he was also a chief director and art director of that theatre; whereas in 1981-1988, the artist was employed as a chief designer of the theatre. In 1968-1970, Vitalijus Mazūras worked as a designer at the Kaunas Puppet Theatre. In 1975-1979, he gave lectures at the Lithuanian State Conservatoire, and in 1994-2006, at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. During 1994-2002, Mozūras was a director of the company of puppeteers of the Vilnius Youth Theatre. In 1997, together with his wife, actress Nijolė Bižanaitė he established the theatre Paršiukas Ikaras. The artist has been participating actively in various exhibitions both in Lithuania and abroad since 1965. He creates set designs and directs performances in both Lithuanian and foreign theatres. In 2008, Vitalijus Mazūras was granted the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Award established by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. The Lithuanian National Prize was awarded to the artist in 2012. His earlier works include, inter alia: The Little Sheep's Trial (Lith.: Avinėlio teismas), The Cat's House (Lith.: Katės namai), The Little Girl's Singing and Dancing Lark (Lith.: Dainuojantis ir šokantis mergaitės vieversėlis), The Earth's Daughter (Lith.: Žemės dukra), Circus is Circus (Lith.: Cirkas yra cirkas), Measles (Lith.: Raudonligė), The Puppet Play of Don Cristóbal. The Love of Don Perlimplín (Lith.: Dono Kristobalio balaganėlis. Dono Perlimplino meilė), Barbora Radvilaitė by Juozas Grušas.
