Povilas Gaidys

Povilas Gaidys was born in Subačius, on May 24, 1937. In 1958, he completed his studies in the Mastery of Acting at Lithuanian State Conservatoire, and in 1963, in Directing at Lunacharsky State Institute for Theatre Arts in Moscow. Povilas Gaidys has been employed as a director (chief director till 1998) and actor at the Klaipėda Drama Theatre since 1963. In 1998-2001, he was also appointed the head of the theatre. Gaidys worked as the art director of the theatre from 2001 to 2016. The artist gave lectures at the Klaipėda faculties of the Lithuanian Academy of Music (former Lithuanian Conservatoire till 1991) in 1971-1995; a professor. Povilas Gaidys has created and performed numerous roles both in theatre and films. In 1979, the artist was granted the LSSR State Prize. In 2002, the director was awarded the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas (Officer's Cross).
