Anderson Street (384) 2006 12 08 Inesa Paliulytė. Dir. Inesa Paliulytė. The Kaunas State Drama Theatre, the theatre school My Theatre. Première – in 2005
The childhood of a future writer Anderson unfolds in front of the eyes in a small, ancient street constructed along the entire Long Hall of the Kaunas Drama Theatre. Here you’ll find poverty, children’s insults, and fairy-tales that a granny draws out of glass pots. The most interesting thing is that more than a hundred children act together with professional actors.

Arabian Night 2006 12 07 Roland Schimmelpfennig. Dir. Cezaris Graužinis. the Cezaris Group, The Theatre and Cinema Information and Education Centre. Première – in 2003
This is the first performance by the Cezaris Group – so far, this has probably been their brightest and the most refreshing performance. Five young actors flood a cosy stage with magic light of Arabian night, even though the action takes place in a block of flats, in a modern German city.

Cabaret 2006 12 06 John Kander, Fred Ebb. Dir. Aidas Giniotis. The Kaunas State Musical Theatre. Premiere - 2004
It seems that the entire theatrical Lithuania has combined forces in order to climb the Everest of American musical. Starting with charismatic pianist Petras Geniušas, a nugget from Klaipėda – Darius Meškauskas, the legend of Kaunas drama - Gražina Balandytė, and finishing with the joint forces of the Kaunas Musical Theatre rallied by “the odd man” Aidas Giniotis. It is true, though, that Lithuanian forces were insufficient - Latvian actress Viktorija Streiča performed the role of Sali. Lithuanians expressed their gratitude to Streiča by granting her the Golden Stage Cross.

Chronicles of Whole Days and Whole Nights, The 2006 12 05 Xavier Durringer. Dir. Ignas Jonynas. The State Youth Theatre. Première – in 2002
It’s just an entirely different performance. Spectators sit on the stage that is reached through “the airport” corridor, the artists are intermixed with the audience and their feelings are fused with the fates of their characters. This performance is a declaration of love – love to theatre (to the State Youth Theatre and theatre in general), film and life. A nostalgic look at something that is constantly moving away from us – into the time of our lives.

Cold Child, The (373) 2006 12 04 Marius von Mayenburg. Dir. Oskaras Koršunovas, the Klaipėda State Drama Theatre. Premiére – on 05-03-2004
Having staged two plays by a young German playwright Marius von Mayenburg at his theatre, director Oskaras Koršunovas has decided to stage the third one with the help of the best actors from the Klaipėda State Drama Theatre. On the stage covered in white glazed tiles, a cinematic montage of families without love and their apocalypse rolls gradually towards a regular denouement.

Contrabass 2006 12 03 Patrick Süskind. Dir. Valentinas Masalskis. The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. Première – 22 10 2005
One more directing work by one of the best Lithuanian actors – Valentinas Masalskis – in the cosy atmosphere of the Small hall. It only proves once again that Masalskis is strongest, when it’s not necessary to reveal complex philosophical construction of a play, but rather to concentrate with precision on acting – sheer acting without covers.

Demons. Devils. Demoniacs 2006 12 01 Fiodor Dostojevskij. Dir. Jonas Vaitkus. The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. Première – 29-04-2005
Those who don’t believe that the novel by Fiodor Dostoevsky could be well squeezed into a couple of hours light genre show, should definitely see this though not the most successful performance but surely the one of solid scope by master of direction Jonas Vaitkus. In one evening you’ll get a rare possibility to see the entire team of actors of various generations – the main trumps of current Lithuanian theatre - raised by Jonas Vaitkus.

Distant Land, The 2006 12 01 Tankred Dorst, Ursula Ehler. Dir. Gintaras Varnas. The Kaunas State Drama Theatre. Premiere - 2001
The play as well as the performance could be treated as a modern interpretation of a biblical parable about the prodigal son who has wasted all his riches in a distant land and has returned home. Or it may simply be interpreted as the story about a young man Lui (by Saulius Balandis) who sets out on a journey to collect his scattered life before death. Anyway, this is the most subtle performance by Gintaras Varnas. It is also the most “ill” and the most “infecting” with love
