85 years ago, the State theatre in Kaunas housed the premiere of the first professional ballet performance Coppélia by Leo Delibes. On December 3, the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute organized an international scientific conference to mark the anniversary of the ballet.
The support granted by the Research Council of Lithuania enabled the organisers of the conference to invite to Vilnius well-known ballet researchers from Russia, Latvia, and France. The presenters discussed various themes of the history of European dance.
Moreover, during the conference, the participants had an opportunity to see fragments of unique archival video material with such ballet stars as ballerina Vera Nemčinova, who had worked in the State Theatre in 1931-1935, and legendary Lithuanian dancers Aliodija Ruzgaitė, Genovaitė Sabaliauskaitė and Henrikas Banys, Tamara Sventickaitė and Henrikas Kunavičius, Leokadija Aškelovičiūtė and Česlovas Žebrauskas.
