The Lower Depths in OKT

The eleventh season of the Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre (OKT) continues with the premiere of The Lower Depths based on the play bearing the same title by Maxim Gorky. A one-act performance-laboratory takes place in a very unusual place - a theatre rehearsal room - where spectators and actors appear very near each other physically, i.e., seated at the same table.

The stage is a table, seated at which the actors speak about their profession, the value of a human being, and the importance of the interior world of a human being as opposed to his exterior. Director Koršunovas says that, "Being an actor is an interesting profession; however, due to that immersion in show business nobody has ever thought that an actor is not a showman and that he is a human being in the first place, and as such he becomes an instrument in his own hands."
