The Theatre and Cinema Information and Education Centre (TCIEC) together with the Diplomatic Representative Office of Lithuania in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland launched a continuous project of Lithuanian dramaturgy dissemination Lithuanian Drama in London, the implementation of which will be completed in 2010-2011. This is a cultural as well as social project involving the presentation of the plays by the brightest Lithuanian authors of the new generation in the United Kingdom and the analysis of the social reality of Lithuanian emigrants residing in London with the help of dramaturgy. The project is supported by the Lithuanian Culture Support Foundation.
During the first stage of the project Lithuanian Drama in London lasting from October 18 to November 21, the creative residence of playwright Marius Ivaškevičius was organized in cooperation with the Orange Tree Theatre. The playwright participated in the meetings with Lithuanian emigrants of various social classes living in London and its suburbs. The works by Ivaškevičius will be presented to the London National Theatre as well as one of the most famous theatres of the new dramaturgy the Royal Court. On November 9, the reading of his play Close City (Lith. Artimas miestas) was organised at the Orange Tree Theatre. The new play of the playwright is going to be presented at the London Orange Tree Theatre as well as the international festival New Drama Action'11 in Vilnius in 2011.
