Finally, the book Postdramatic Theatre by German theatre researcher Hans-Thies Lehmann has been published in Lithuanian. The book was written in 1999 and has already been translated into numerous European languages. Also, the book has already become one of the most popular publications among theatre critics during the past decade.
Postdramatic Theatre was published by the Arts Printing House. This has been the first project of the kind implemented by the Arts Printing House. The book was translated by Jūratė Pieslytė, who had translated numerous other German plays for Lithuanian theatre directors. Ona Daukšienė and Vaidas Jauniškis edited the publication, whereas Tomas Mrazauskas designed its layout.
The book is introduced to a reader with the preface World Ceased Acting by Vaidas Jauniškis, which summarises not only the ideas expressed by Lehmann but also the experience of the past two decades of Lithuanian theatre. However, it should be noted that such experience was being shaped not so much by our national theatre (although it would be difficult to state this explicitly) as by the artists having presented their works at the festivals of LIFE, New Drama Action, and Sirens, all of whom are mentioned in the book by Hans-Thies Lehmann.
