| Heiner Müller |
Together with Goethe-Institut Vilnius the twelfth New Drama Action (NDA) presented for the first time the works of German playwright Heiner Müller (1929-1995), one of the most prominent late 20th century theatre thinkers, to the Lithuanian audience. Director Jonas Jurašas organised the reading of the play Philoktet (Philoctetes) by Müller at the Arts Printing House.
The acquaintance with the personality and works of Müller was further strengthened by two documentaries presented at the Vilnius cinema Pasaka by Swiss director Christoph Rüter. Moreover, a video recording of the performance staged at the Berlin Deutsches Theater based on the main play of the playwright Hamletmachine (German: Die Hamletmaschine) was shown.
Furthermore, the performance Cherry Orchard based on the play by Anton Chekhov and directed by Finnish director Kristian Smeds was shown in Vilnius, at the beginning of July. The performance featuring Lithuanian actors of various generations was broadcast live on the biggest biannual theatre forum Theatre der Welt and was shown on the Lithuanian television. Also, a theatrical installation of the Cherry Orchard was presented at the Russian Drama Theatre of Lithuania.
